”Animal 911”: Pet owners explore service

If her 70-pound golden retriever were sick or unconscious, Joan Rezendes would have a hard time loading the animal into her Jeep.

And if the 126-pound Rottweiler-mastiff mix she sometimes pet sits became incapacitated – well, there’s no way she could handle it by herself.

”What happens if you’re alone and something happens to your pet?” asked Rezendes, a Pocasset resident who recently completed an American Red Cross course on first aid for pets.

Pet owners can’t call 911. At least not yet.
